What is Laser Dentistry?

Laser dentistry provides a modern, innovative, and overall more comfortable approach to dental care. The drill has traditionally been the dentist’s go-to tool, but it is invasive and causes an unnecessary amount of patient discomfort. When a laser is used, patients are more comfortable and relaxed.

Because of the laser’s concentrated energy, it can be used to perform powerful and accurate dental work without being invasive. In addition, because laser treatment is by nature, gentler, patients experience the following benefits:

  • Decreased appointment duration
  • Minimized bleeding and swelling
  • Reduced discomfort (during and after procedures)
  • Moderated or eliminated need for local anesthesia (in most cases)
  • Faster healing and recovery

Lasers are wonderful, resourceful tools in cosmetic, preventative, and reparative dentistry. Here are the many ways that the Montana Center for Laser Dentistry can help you through the use of laser dentistry technology:

  • Decay removal
  • Fillings
  • Root canals
  • Periodontal treatments (i.e., gum disease)
  • Gum recontouring
  • Crowns and veneers (in a single appointment!)
  • Teeth whitening

More Dental Technology

In addition to dental lasers Fotona and Technology4Medicine, we employ many other types of innovative dental technology for the benefit of our patients, such as:

Dental Microscope

To enhance our ability to diagnose and treat in a minimally invasive fashion. We can see over 1000 times more than the naked eye using the microscope!

Cerec

To make crowns and veneers in just over an hour (while you wait!), eliminating the need for the dreaded temporary crown or veneer and a follow-up visit

CariFree

To help prevent and treat the caries infection, the bacterial infection that causes cavities

DIAGNOdent

To support earlier and more accurate detection of tooth decay

KöR Whitening

To whiten teeth; KöR Whitening Deep Bleaching is a revolutionary tool in teeth whitening, with low-to-no teeth sensitivity felt by patients; it is the only system proven to whiten tetracycline (dark) stained teeth

Proprietary Instruments

Dr. Colonna has even developed his own instruments to help eliminate the use of drills in his practice.

Bite Technology

T-Scan pressure measurement used with Joint Vibration Analysis (JVA) and Electromyography (EMG) to accurately figure out your problem and then used to improve your bite for comfort, prevent wear and damage to your teeth and dental materials. An unbalanced bite can be a big part of teeth moving, headaches, muscle tension in your face, neck, and shoulders, and Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD). It's very important to get your bite right after orthodontics.

Velscope

The VELscope system helps dental professionals visualize abnormalities in the mucosal tissues of your lips, mouth and upper throat. In just two minutes, with no rinses, stains or discomfort, a VELscope examination lets healthcare professionals improve their assessment of your overall oral health.

Galileos 3D x-ray, cone beam radiographic system

This type of x-ray is like a panoramic x-ray, but can see the teeth, jawbone, TMJ, sinuses, and more, in three dimensions. It allows the doctors to diagnose what previously could NOT be seen in traditional two dimensional x-rays. The accuracy of these images are so precise, that the doctors can actually perform a “Virtual Surgery” for example, to place implants, in a extremely precise, and minimally invasive fashion! We can also use this type of x-ray to diagnose and treat sleep disorders such as snoring and sleep apnea! There is so much this does that we can’t imagine practicing dentistry without this technology!
